There is no one age that is right for everyone to start en pointe. The perfect time for you really depends on how long you have been dancing, your strength. range of motion and skeletal maturity.
This video explains the answer to this question in a lot more detail.
We have developed a detailed assessment process called a "Pre Pointe Assessment" which is wonderful for any dancer to go through. This analyses the range of motion in your feet, knees and hips, as well as specific strength and control in all of the muscles that you need for pointe work. If you are interested in undergoing an assessment there are several options:
1. Book an appointment with one of our Physiotherapists
2. Find a dance teacher or Physiotherapist who has "The Perfect Pointe System"
3. Purchase "The Perfect Pointe Book" which has tests and exercises to help you prepare yourself for pointe work.
Being fully prepared for pointe work really does make it easier, and more fun! It also helps prevent many of the common injuries that young dancers get when they start en pointe too early.
