The tests and exercises in The Perfect Pointe Book are fantastic for all dancers, no matter whether or not they are planning on doing pointe work, are male or female or if they are old or young.
The Perfect Pointe Book outlines the 4 basic stages that are needed to allow a safe transition onto pointe, but these categories also help dancers of all walks of life improve their technique.
The 4 stages are:
- Flexibility of the feet and ankles
- Strength of the feet and ankles
- Turnout range and control
- Core control and balance.
Each stage is commenced with tests to establish how competant the dancer is in that area, and helps them to understand why things may be difficuilt. There is then a series of graded exercises to help improve any weaknesses or restrictions, so that the dancer can pass the tests before moving on to the next stage.
Many dance teachers run all of their studentys through the program, and are plesantly surprised at just how much benefit the students get by such focused assessment and training.
